Need to set "default processor architecture" programmatically

Under the Test > Test Settings > Default Processor Architecture there are two options: x86 and x64. I would like to be able to set this option from a visual studio extension/plugin but haven't been able to find how to interact with this setting. I'm using VS 2013. Any advice?

Generally what is the best way to interact with options I see revealed in the menu? It seems to me these things ought to be automate'able, but I've been unable to find anything in the MSDN documentation that says how, exactly. I feel like I'm missing some high-level concept.

Thanks in advance.
