I hope this is the right place to ask this question.
I just installed VS2010 from MSDN subscription especially to try out the data compare tool (Data / Data Compare / New Data Comparison ...). However, to my disappointment, I haven't got it to work yet. I'm comparing two small databases with one table. They are two different databases. I've named the second database something different for this comparison test. Also, the table in the second database has one extra record which I'm testing to see if it'd show up in some discrepancy report.
When I get to the "Select which tables, fields, and views to compare" screen, I see check boxes next to "Tables" and "Views". But, they don't expand at all to show me the tables or views. The "Next" button is greyed out. When I click the Finish button, the dialog closes and VS shows a new tab with the comparison results which essentially has nothing in it.
Please let me know how to get this tool to work. I was really hoping to use this tool in a huge data migration task I'll be helping with. I want to compare the migrated databases with the original databases to verify they are the same (thus, the migration was successful).
